Setup Google Apps Email account in Thunderbird 3.0

Issue

Need to configure your Google Apps email account into your Thunderbird 3.0

Workaround

STEP 1: Open Thunderbird.

STEP 2: Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings

STEP 3: Choose the Add Mail Account from the drop-down list located under the account list on the left.

STEP 4: Enter your name, your email address and your password. Click Continue.

STEP 5: Thunderbird will query the email server and automatically configure the appropriate IMAP connection settings for your account (if you would like to configure POP instead, please complete the rest as the STEP 6). When complete, Thunderbird will show you a confirmation dialog as below:

STEP 6: To use POP instead of IMAP for your incoming messages, click Edit and change the following values:

  • Incoming: change to “pop.gmail.com
  • Outgoing change to “smtp.gmail.com
  • Protocol (the drop-down list to the right of the Incoming field): change to “POP
  • Port (the field to the right of the protocol drop-down list): change to “995
