Objective
To provide a detailed guide on recovering a virtual machine using a bootable media provided in Acronis Cloud.
Prerequisites
- Access to Acronis Cloud Account
- Bootable Media ISO
- Destination Virtual Machine (same specifications as the existing virtual machine)
- Access to your NFS share which hosts your Acronis backups.
Steps
Step 1: Obtain Bootable Media
Login to your Acronis portal.
Under the Devices tab, select any of the available machines and click on Recovery.
Click on the More ways to recover… hyperlink. Then, select Download ISO Image
A window pop up will appear suggesting you to generate a registration token for easier access to the cloud from bootable media without needing the credentials. In this article, this step is skipped. Hence, click on Got it to begin the download process.
Step 2: Perform Recovery
Go to your hypervisor and attach the ISO onto the new virtual machine (Ensure there is sufficient disk space for recovery process). Then, boot-up the virtual machine.
You will then be directed to the Acronis Rescue Media utility console. Select Rescue Media to begin.
Select Configure Network to manually set the IP details of the virtual machine.
Then, click on Manage this machine locally.
Select Recover. Then select the data that your wish to recover. Specify the path to the NFS share.
On the Recover Selection screen, select a restoration point and Disks as the backup contents (NOTE: Select Volumes will result longer restoration time).
Click on OK to start the restoration process.
