The steps for upgrading to SmarterMail latest version

Upgrading to SmarterMail (Minor Upgrade)

Follow these steps to upgrade to the latest version of SmarterMail.

STEP 1: Back up your SmarterMail installation and data.

STEP 2: Download the latest automated installer from the SmarterMail Download page.

STEP 3: After downloading, run the installation package.

STEP 4: During the installation process you will be prompted for the installation path.  In order to keep existing data and settings, install to the same path used in previous installs.  For reference, the default installation location is C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail.

All configuration data and emails are preserved.

Upgrading to SmarterMail. (Major Upgrade)

Follow these steps to upgrade to the latest version of SmarterMail.

STEP 1: Back up your SmarterMail installation and data.

STEP 2: Uninstall SmarterMail. All configuration data and email will be preserved.

STEP 3: Download the latest automated installer from the SmarterMail Download page.

STEP 4: After downloading, run the installation package.

STEP 5: During the installation process you will be prompted for the installation path.  In order to keep existing data and settings, install to the same path used in previous installs.  For reference, the default installation location is C:\Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail.

STEP 6: The Setup Wizard will automatically run. If you were running with an activated license key, you will need to reactivate using a license key for the new version.  In some cases, you may need to reconfigure your spam settings, as those can change from version to version.

NOTE: In SmarterMail there has been a file change structure, because of this you will not be able to roll back to an older version. To go back to an older version you will need to restore from a backup.
